Michael had laser surgery today to FINALLY get his varicose veins taken care of. It's something that I've been praying he would address for years now. Not only were his veins unsightly (our nephew, Aedan, is fascinated with all things gross and he was fond of referring to the veins in Uncle Mike's legs and feet as "worms"), but my biggest concern was the possibility of clots.
Michael has always stayed active (stair climbing and jogging), but his legs have started to bother him in the last couple of years. As a matter of fact, they've come to bother ME, too!! You see, he really started to have "active" legs at night - - restless leg syndrome. Since I have so much trouble sleeping anyway, it was REALLY difficult when he would start doing "River Dance" in his sleep (bed shaking; legs jerking)!! He has always been completely oblivious to his "dance routines" - -he could sleep through ANYTHING...including an earthquake! Hah! (Funny story...the Midwest was actually hit with an earthquake last year and when it was happening at about 4:30 in the morning, I actually thought it was Michael! He never even FELT the earthquake!)
Anyway...the surgery went well and his entire leg is bound. He's supposed to walk for 10 minutes every hour. (His doctor his a hoot! Very nice guy.) He can't work out for about a month. He has to have his other leg taken care of as well, but the doctor feels it's not as bad as the leg he worked on today, so that's good news. Now we have to wait to see if the freaky veins go away (let's hope so!). To be continued...
